My last favorite walk

It was the perfect thirty-minutes

the space where trees turned

green - orange - red in fall

then lost it all

until this week

the sun kissed its flowers awake

and slowly turned its bare arms green

I’d go down, left, right, right again

in stolen time between laptop hours

and after long office days

in early mornings and at sunset

me-time.

my own little routine

in a life of otherwise none

a daily habit in a temporary home

a familiar path in this so very new city

but the one guy on the corner

of my favorite steep hill

stared just a little too long

and said hi a little too off

and made noises a little too…

wrong

so after two weeks of never

not seeing him there

just like that

it changed from my daily respite

to my least-

and then last

favorite walk.
