Fast lane girl (but make it a Sunday)

“somebody love somebody this mornin’!”

“ooeewwwwww flooooowers”

when I turned around to see

who was this morning’s live commentator

to my morning walk

[swinging left to right

in the slow lane, by the way]

he went quiet

like a kid yelling the loudest

in the back of the class

so hungry for attention [connection]

yet so terrified when it’s there.

when he ran for the bus

he ran into my flowers

and I sat down in the park

as someone who walked past said:

“ohhh what a beautiful day”

to somebody?

when a little kid got off the next bus

–      the one I got on

he exclaimed: “bye! I luvvvv you!”

to anyone who’ d accept

the only way he knew how to say bye

if only my commentator had taken his sweet time

in the slow lane today (it’s a Sunday, after all)

he’d have heard that

he was somebody loved by somebody

this morning, too.

yeah.

what a beautiful day.
